Policy Playbook for Cities Summary
Adopt by-right rules, simplify permits, reduce mandates, and allow for easy lot splits. Avoid caps, delays, and micromanagement.
Allow duplexes, fourplexes, ADUs, and small-lot homes by right and reduce mandatory lot sizes.
Enable housing in commercial and industrial zones and reuse underused land.
Work to identify unused parcels for workforce and starter homes. Utilize workforce housing funding, land leases, or other incentives or tools to lower costs of development.
Cities need tools to pay for infrastructure which will allow for smarter housing development.
How to create a pro-housing coalition in your City
We hear from Neighbors for Boise founders on how and why they started the group and their successes in helping usher through Boise's Modern Zoning Code. Note: We apologize, the sound on this episode didn't entirely work with the mics, so it's not the best quality!
Our Policy Playbook guides our work and includes best practices which have been used across the country to create more housing of different types and sizes.
Thanks to our Founding Members:
